How to beat the Golem and get the Golem’s eye for the blacksmith in Chronos: Before the Ashes

The blacksmith is one of the first and only people you can meet and freely speak to in Chronos: Before the Ashes. They’ll be working in their smithy, hammering away, and you can encounter them early on in the game. They’ll task you with getting them the Golem’s eye, and you need to defeat the Golem to acquire it. Unfortunately, the Golem is the second boss in the game, so it will take a bit of time to reach it, and there are a few steps you need to complete before getting there.

Defeating the Cyclops

Before you can take on the Golem, you need to take the Cyclops. They’re the first boss in the game. The encounter them, you need to find the two missing stone blocks for the mirror in that area and place them at the pedestal at the mirror, find the master key, and battle the Cyclops.

Finding the missing sword for the statue

Once you defeat the Cyclops, you’ll be teleported back to the tree that gave you the dragon stone at the start. From there, you’ll be able to unlock the door nearby and enter a new part of the kingdom. When you initially enter this location, go to the left, and find the courtyard where there are two statues. The statue on the left will have a missing sword.

To find the sword, you need to return to where you entered the area, go to the right instead of the left. There will be a machine puzzle where you have to recreate the face of the statue. When you line up the face correctly, the missing sword pops up from the machine, and you can return to the courtyard and place it in front of the statue. The stairs behind you will open, and if you follow that pathway, you will find the golem at the end.

How to defeat the Golem

The Golem is a large foe. But because of its large size, you can take advantage of how slow some of its attacks are compared to your smaller, more agile build. The Golem’s primary attack will be it swinging its left arm in front of it and then swinging it back again. You can quickly dodge this by going to the Golem’s right and hitting it several times. Parrying can also work, but if you need to get your timing correct.

Every so often, the Golem will place its right arm down and start making tremors in the ground. It would be best if you rolled away from it while it does this and wait until it finishes. When it’s done making this attack, return to battling in close quarters.

Once it reaches the second half of its health, the Golem takes off its right arm, and it uses it as a blunt weapon to attack you. The Golem’s strikes are significantly faster, so you need to match your parries to these attacks or dodge out of the way in time. You may want to watch it strike to learn the new timing. If you get too far away, it will perform a basic downward strike with its cudgel.

Upon defeating the Golem, it will drop its eye directly into your inventory. You can now take it back to the Blacksmith at the start of the game, which rewards you with the Morning Star, a strength affinity weapon.
