The so-called Console War may be between Xbox and PlayStation, but the PS5 has taken out one of the toughest opponents to date in the U.K.: the Nintendo Switch. German analytics firm GFK confirmed the next-gen console outsold the Switch in November, making this only the third time in two years that the hybrid machine settled for the second spot.
More intriguing, a whopping nearly 900,000 game consoles were purchased in the sovereign state. The number now marks November 2020 as the second-largest month for console revenue, behind the PS4 and Xbox One’s gargantuan December 2013 sales.
Although Nintendo may have been dethroned, Switch still saw a 96% increase in sales, with its software making up almost 35% of game purchases last month. Unsurprisingly, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War topped November’s U.K. game charts, but Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Super Mario 3D All-Stars managed to secure the sixth and ninth spot, respectively.
In terms of PlayStation exclusives’ sales, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales landed in fourth, as Demon’s Souls slipped in at 16. According to GFK, the Sony also has bragging rights in the PS5’s DualSense controller, as it was the top-selling accessory for the month, followed by the Pulse 3D Headset and PS4’s DualShock 4.
