We knew World of Warcraft’s newest expansion was a hit, but Activision has released sales figures that describe what a runaway success Shadowlands has quickly become.
On its first full day of release, Shadowlands sold more than 3.7 million copies, which Blizzard describes as “the fastest-selling PC game of all time industry-wide.” Appropriately enough, Blizzard was the previous record holder, selling 3.5 million copies of Diablo III on its own launch day.
Here are a few other takeaways from the press release, which can be read in full at Activision’s website:
- In the months before Shadowlands, World of Warcraft saw its highest number of subscribed players compared to any previous expansion.
- In the same period, there were more players in Azeroth than at any time in the last ten years.
- Total player game time has almost doubled compared to the same period in 2019.
